Hip To Be Sober

India has seen a big shift in the drinking culture in just over a decade. Parties and get-togethers are synonymous with alcohol where age and gender, which were big determiners, has taken a back seat. This is not only a metropolitan thing but has been slowly catching up in towns and two-tier cities as well.
Very fresh but starkly rising amongst this inebriation is a new revolution of non-alcoholism. This mindful, sober trend seems to be asking if ‘young India’ is finally maturing…taking responsibility, weighing consequences and looking for more meaningful connections?
Interestingly this is how India was a few decades back before the booze-culture took over. Maybe then the option was not given but rather imposed and so the imitation caught up sooner. But with a conscious choice of abstaining, it now somehow seems hip to be sober!
